| 'ECSTA' Wins the Grand Prix of Industrial Technology Innovation's 'Abiji Award' |

Kumho Tires' ECSTA ultra high-performance (UHP) tire lineup was recently awarded the Abiji Award in the design
sector, , at the 7th Industrial Technology Innovation Reward Ceremony. The ceremony was held at the office of the
South Korean Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, on January 19, 2005.
Kumho Tires led the state-of-the-art tire design and development trend, to develop the full line-up of ultra
highperformance tires, for the first time in the world. The design technology of ECSTA , which added creative value
to the existing UHP tires, is evaluated as having contributed to better straight driving performance and handling.
These factors are cited as the core design factors in ultra high-performance tires.
The ultra high performance product line of ECSTA consists of the ECSTA MX for sports driving; ECSTA DX with low
noise, for drivers who want a comfortable riding experience; the fourseason ECSTA ASX; the first of its kind in the
Korean market; ECSTA SEVEN adding beauty to the vehicle; ECSTA KH11 ensuring a consistent performance for a
general sedan; and ECSTA STX exclusively for SUV. All six products won the design award this time.
Launched in 2001, the Industrial Technology Innovation Reward has adopted the names of engineers, technicians,
or scholars, who made great contribution to the history of technology in Korea, in naming each individual award. It is
the most authoritative award given in the industrial and technology area in Korea. Of the 41 companies
recommended by eleven technology-related organizations, including the University Industrial Technology Force,
and Techno Park, the six best companies are selected and honored. Prizes of 10 million won (KRW), and trophies,
were awarded to the 6 companies selected, based upon a very tight screening process by the Korea Industrial
Technology Foundation.
